Post Re: a pitch about Social Operating Systems
Its a work in progress for a web-presentation to pitch developemet for a web based social OS... umm... I am thinking I need to talk about why it should be refered to as a Social OS... my reasoning is that the datastructures and APIs deal with social aspects rather then technical aspects... like forums, links, profiles, albums... apps for the most part are multi user, stuff of the sort...

peace out...

Interesting ideas. I think one major reason for the increase in browse functionality is that it provides a more consistent and easily maintainable platform to develop on. Even developing for one modern-day OS can leave many choices left to be made.

I have been developing on the iPhone for a few months and its API is a great example of how it could be. Well documented and easy to use. Still though, not perfect as it has many hidden libraries that you are not supposed to use that would give lots of features, like direct camera access.

Anyway, keep brainstorming!

Isn't this also like google's plan for the chrome os, but on a bigger scale? I like the idea, we should further refine it :)

This is a really good point. I normally would think of a "Social OS" as something with a browser running ontop and jailing all apps in the browser. An idea to pull apps outside of the browser is good, its kinda like what Microsoft is doing with the Silverlight/WPF API, but better (that API still needs some work).
