Post subject:  Installing the OS to the HDD

I am sort of new to OS Development. I have a computer that i will be developing my first os on. I have thought about getting my os on my HD via a floppy. I want to get my OS onto my HD via a floppy. How do i do it? Create a basic OS on the floppy and be recognizable and move the Static OS to the HD in the computer and unpack it?

It would work assuming that you have hard disk support, and assuming that you have a bootloader that can load the OS you are developing.

I am thinking about doing it. I am sure that it will work. Simply create a basic OS on the floppy, then tell it to copy over the static files. unpack and reboot. When rebooted, load the OS and continue with another floppy with the rest of the files.

That is a lot more work than what it sounds like. It does sound cool though. Are you using a normal archive file, or something that you cooked up yourself? As for floppy to HD, is the floppy internal or external? And what filesystems are you using?
